The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking an experienced IT System Administrator - Journey to oversee and manage the agency’s Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems, and support approximately 4,000 mobile devices statewide. This position will provide expert-level support in mobile application deployment, device security, and release management for workstation software. In this role, you will play a key role in delivering core IT services such as incident, change, problem, and asset management while supporting the daily operations of the Desktop Services Tier 3 team for WSDOT Headquarters. As the Technology Services Division (TSD) Field Services System Administrator, you will manage and maintain a variety of end-user technologies including desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, and AV systems, and contribute to WSDOT’s mission by ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient technology operations across the agency. This role will also lead complex projects with agency-wide impacts, delivering innovative IT solutions that improve statewide service delivery.

What to Expect

Headquarters TSD provides services to over 1900 employees and 4117 IT end devices remotely and at 8 physical building sites within the agency's Headquarters/Olympia area, enabling WSDOT employees to complete their assigned work activities in support of the agency's mission. In additional to providing support for WSDOT employees, this team also provides services to several other partnering agencies in the Olympia area (FHWA, Transportation Commission Office, Freight Mobility Board, OMWBE, State Auditor's Office, and the Attorney General's Offices).


Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the TSD Field Services System Administrator - Journey will:* Administer the agency’s statewide EMM and MDM servers.

  • Manage and secure the 4,000+ agency mobile devices deployed across WSDOT.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, agency infrastructure staff and mobile device vendors (Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, etc.) to ensure seamless integration into WSDOT and vendor environments.
  • Serve as highest level statewide technical expert on unresolved mobile device management support issues.
  • Be responsible for identifying root cause of support issues, analyzing data, and forming solutions to maximize efficiencies, minimize costs, and maintain high satisfaction.
  • Receive unresolved support issues from lower-level technicians, diagnoses application, hardware, and software conflicts.
  • Administer the release of system updates, security patches, drivers and firmware deployments to ensure security compliance for all end user computing systems across Headquarters.
  • Manage the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) environment.
  • Monitor, maintain, and support WSDOT workstation and mobile devices.
  • Install, maintain, and resolve hardware and software problems by replacing components, using specialized technical tools and test equipment to diagnose and resolve faults.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, at least one (1) of the following are required:* Nine (9) years of full-time IT experience working in a customer serviced-focused technology organization in varied IT disciplines such as IT customer support, policy development, network administration, server administration, telecommunications administration, systems administration, and IT project management.

OR
  • An associate�s degree in computer science or closely related field and seven (7) years of full-time IT experience working in varied IT disciplines such as those listed above. OR
  • A bachelor�s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or Software Development, or related field and five (5) years of full-time IT experience working in varied IT disciplines such as those listed above.


In addition to one (1) of the above, the following are also required:* Four (4) years of experience supporting MDM and EMM solutions.

  • Four (4) years of experience providing technical consulting and installation of IT hardware and software across a large (2000+ users) computing environment.
  • Experience effectively communicating and assisting a diverse set of information technology peers.
  • Experience providing expert level technical consulting and performing systems administration of a large (500+ users) computing environment.
  • The ability to respond to emergency outages, sometimes during inclement weather events or other catastrophic incidents.
  • The ability to transport various pieces of computer-related equipment that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • A valid driver�s license.
  • Knowledge of:

+ Microsoft lntune Endpoint EMM Server

+ Mobile device management technologies, solutions, and support

+ Desktop computer hardware, software, architecture, and operational theory

+ Microsoft Operating systems, applications, management, and technical tools

+ Microsoft active directory, software configuration manager, and Intune advanced knowledge

+ Networked computing environment and infrastructure

+ Imaging, group policies, and task sequence

+ Asset Management - Judicious use of funds and strategic asset planning to assure a highly available and robust IT environment in support of business operations

+ Service Management - Assures IT goods, services, and systems are delivered and supported as expected, or contracted


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:* COMP TIA certification (e.g. A+, NET+) and any Microsoft or Cisco Certifications.

  • Project management certification (PMP or CAPM) or four (4) years of experience providing project management for technical IT projects involving installation of IT networks, hardware, and software.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation Certification.
