Title: Risk Manager Legal Counsel

Position Summary


The Risk Manager Legal Counsel plays a pivotal role in reducing the frequency and severity of claims through the application of risk management practices. These practices involve identifying and evaluating legal liability exposures and providing members with risk mitigation guidance and resources including consultation, training, as well as model forms, policies, and practices. This position involves significant phone consultation with members on a wide variety of risk exposures involving federal and state employment law, civil rights law, law enforcement law, tort law, and public entity law including governance best practices. This position frequently interacts with Idaho local elected officials as well as ICRMP-appointed defense panel legal counsel.


Primary Functions/Major Assignments


· Consult with members on a wide variety of legal topics and risks.


· Identify and evaluate legal liability exposures and provide relevant risk mitigation guidance and resources.


· Develop and maintain relevant legal and risk mitigation training.


· Regularly provide members with in-person and online training in an engaging and interactive style.


· Develop and maintain model policies, forms, and resources to aid members’ risk mitigation efforts.


· Efficiently and effectively document training and consultations in Origami, RMIS system.


· Develop positive relations and trust with members and legal counsel.


· Attend member conferences and meetings.


· Assist with the development of insurance policy language.


· Work on special projects as assigned.

Specific Job Abilities


· Possess excellent computer skills including peripheral equipment such as a projector.


· Recognize risk exposures and initiate mitigation efforts.


· Research and interpret laws and administrative rulings.


· Strong interpersonal skills to include ability to communicate well, work cooperatively, and resolve conflict.


· Develop and present compelling written, oral, and visual presentations.


· Communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience with varying levels of understanding and knowledge.


· Organize, plan and prioritize workload involving multiple projects at once.


· Think creatively and strategically as well as provide solutions.


· Work and travel with a high level of independence and self-initiative.


Required Qualifications


· Juris Doctorate Degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.


· Active Idaho State Bar license or able to obtain licensing within 12 months.


· Significant knowledge in employment, civil rights, law enforcement, and tort law.


· Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)


· Have a current driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications


· CPCU or ARM professional insurance certifications.


· Experience in public entity legal representation, or insurance civil defense.


· Experience drafting insurance policy language.


· Experience providing training as subject matter expert.


Job Conditions


· This position operates in a professional office environment.


· Routinely uses standard office equipment, especially computers, projectors and mobile devices.


· Occasional standing; walking; sitting; using hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; climbing stairs; talking or hearing; and driving an automobile.


· Occasional lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.


· Occasional travel within Idaho, including overnight stays.


· The standard working schedule is Monday through Friday during regular office hours.

Job Type: Full-time


Pay: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
