The Reliability Engineer is responsible for developing and executing the strategy to maximize asset reliability across the plant. This role supports the development of the process and facility maintenance strategy and solves availability losses by identifying and managing asset reliability risks for new and existing equipment to enable the plant to meet its safety, quality, and production targets.

Particular focus is placed on opportunities that have impacted the plants measured asset capability and the opportunities identified as "high-risk" in risk assessments, reliability models, etc. This role evaluates the effectiveness of the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program by showing quantitatively the impact of failures and benefits of RCM. In this role, you will work independently or collaboratively, leading cross-functional teams to identify real & perceived failure modes, analyze data, formulate improvement strategies, execute corrective actions, and continuously monitor performance to ensure the highest level of reliability and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a safety-first culture by promoting and driving safe work practices and delivering training highlighting safe work procedures.
  • Creates and executes Equipment Reliability Strategies for the plant based upon historical downtime analysis, cost analysis, opportunity analysis, asset criticality and identified plant/business needs.
  • Develops appropriate condition-based monitoring procedures to ensure potential failures are identified prior to becoming breakdowns and incorporates monitoring data into preventative maintenance procedures with proper frequencies.
  • Performs technical reviews and updates of maintenance procedures and checklists.
  • Is the Subject Matter Expert on Breakdown Analysis of equipment failure and is responsible for documenting the process and training others to ensure proper analysis is done on all significant breakdowns. Also determines appropriate repair techniques and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluates and quantifies continuous improvement projects such as equipment reconfigurations, design changes, equipment component changes, etc.
  • Leads improvement activities as appropriate, Process Simplification, Value Engineering, Maintenance Strategy, Reliability Modeling, etc.
  • Applies long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles in conjunction with the maintenance team to design reliability into our spare part purchasing requirements and set stock levels
  • Provide equipment reliability and performance data to the Maintenance Manager for evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance, and modifications

Qualifications/Experience

  • BS engineering discipline or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of manufacturing or related experience required.
  • CMRP Certification or similar certification is desired.
  • Asset criticality scoring & FMEA
  • Spare parts identification process - critical spare, slow moving, etc. and the understanding of the ABC categories.
  • Application of risk assessment tools and procedures
  • Experience with RCA triggers and facilitating investigations
  • Knowledgeable of maintenance information systems (Maximo, SAP, Limble, etc.)
  • Demonstrated application of Reliability Engineering Principles (ex. Statistical analysis, Pareto, MTBF, MTTR, Reliability modeling)
  • Proficient with predictive and preventative maintenance tools, equipment, and best practices

Preferred Skills

Interpersonal

  • Hands on
  • Self-starter and self-accountability. Strong Work ethic
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with inquisitive personality

Administrative

  • Technical Writing (proposals, justifications, ROI, etc)
  • Data acquisition & analysis
  • Project management & organization, Gantt, critical path, priority scoring

Mechanical

  • Able to comprehend technical specification with respect to equipment installation and operation. Clearance checks, interference fits, lubrication, torque requirements etc.
  • Diagnostic capability to solve problems and drive to root cause of failures

Electrical

  • Able to safely troubleshoot AC/DC voltage systems up to 480V
  • Ability to use a DVOM and other test equipment to diagnose defects
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems including PLCs and ladder logic
