Paraeducator-Interventionists work closely with the Academic Intervention Team (i.e. Coaches and/or Improvement teachers, Site Director, Building Leaders.) and are directly supervised by the Building Administration team. Implement academic intervention strategies and programs and any other newly introduced curriculum, or instructional program. The former positions of tutor and interventionist have been incorporated into this position.
+ Assist in the implementation of the Norwalk Board of Education administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives
+ Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety
+ Follow teacher’s oral or written directions with accuracy
+ Support students with class work
+ Support the teacher with documentation of student progress
+ Support the teacher with the preparation and distribution of lesson plan materials
+ Encourage students to interact appropriately with peers
+ Assist students during recess, breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, on school buses and field trips
+ Implement remediation plans for students at risk from Academic Intervention Team and/or Building Leadership
+ Provide supplemental academic intervention to small groups of students who are identified, by Academic Intervention Team, as at risk for experiencing academic difficulties
+ Implement and deliver academic intervention strategies and programs with fidelity and integrity
+ Participate and support in the administration of all student academic assessments
+ Participate in Academic Intervention Team meetings to review assessment data and make decisions about instruction and intervention
+ Assist and support students to use all necessary and useful equipment for effective implementation of instruction
+ Meet regularly with the Academic Intervention Team
+ Attend all professional development meetings as designed and necessary as initiated by the District
+ Support the teacher with creating instructional plans for academic intervention groups based on student needs
+ Maintain attendance, all academic outcome data and all other academic data that provide evidence of student growth.
+ Participate in parent teacher conferences, when necessary, to communicate evidence of student progress to families
+ Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
+ Interact in a positive manner with all staff, students, parents and visitors
+ Respond to questions and requests in a timely and appropriate manner
+ Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
+ Maintain a level of approachability by administration, staff, parents and visitors
+ Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
+ Must attend and comply with District offered trainings
+ Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an education related field
+ Experience working in schools, preferably with implementing academic interventions and/or supporting students experiencing learning difficulties
+ May require fluency in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, and French
+ Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
+ Effective, active listening skills
+ Ability to perform tasks effectively
+ Ability to interpret student assessment data and develop appropriate intervention plans in consultation with teachers, coaches, directors, and administrators
+ Ability to work effectively with others
+ Effective organizational and problem-solving skills
+ Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing
+ The regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, crouch, climb and stoop
+ Periodic interruption of duties by staff, students, visitors, intercom and/or telephone
+ Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and/or pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 10 pounds
+ All necessary and useful equipment for effective implementation
+ Any other newly introduced technology

Salary: In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
