Job Description:

Join the dynamic team at the State of Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, as a full-time Temporary Office Specialist!


This is a one-year assignment based in Omaha, supporting the Health Licensure and Investigations Unit.


As an Office Specialist, you will play a key role in providing administrative support and excellent customer service to the Office of Children’s Services Licensing.


Job Duties:* Organize and scan archived and current licensing paper files for conversion to electronic files. Format and upload newly created electronic files onto licensing database.

  • Work with statewide licensing staff to transfer paper files for conversion to electronic files.
  • Provide coverage for Office Technician: answering phones, assisting walk-ins, processing and uploading licensing documents to the public website.
  • Provide coverage for Office Specialist positions.


Requirements/ Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; data search-engines or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency. OR Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 1 year office experience.

Experience with Office Equipment primarily scanner/copiers.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.

Familiarity with confidentiality practices such as HIPAA.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :


  • Knowledge of general office procedures, data entry, and recordkeeping
  • Familiarity with confidentiality practices such as HIPAA
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Clear and professional communication, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Comfortable adapting to new systems and changing priorities
  • Able to handle sensitive information with care and discretion
