Vocal Music Staff Pianist

The staff pianist for the vocal music program in Hays Public Schools involves serving as the rehearsal accompanist for two sixth grade choirs, a seventh-eighth grade choir, an extra-curricular middle school choir and two high school choirs. The position is also for the high school’s annual musical, about ten choir performances per year, and middle and high school vocal solo and small ensemble festivals. The person in this role collaborates with the two secondary vocal music teachers to deliver meaningful and joyful musical experiences for the 6th-12th grade students in USD 489 so they may develop skills to live rich musical lives.

The Staff Pianist is expected to:

Prepare for and attend all choir rehearsals both during and outside of the school day.

Support the students and teacher in the music learning process.

Prepare for and play at all vocal music performances.

Support students as they grow as musicians and people with respect and dignity.

Help with and own administrative tasks that could include, but are not limited to, creating and printing concert programs, taking attendance, completing bus requests, purchase orders, building use requests, maintenance and tech requests, fundraising, ordering music, and maintaining the music libraries.

Help with the supervision and management of students.

Communicate with colleagues, staff, students, families, and the public.

Perform duties as assigned by admin.

The Staff Pianist must have the ability to:

Maintain regular and good work attendance.

Work constructively and cooperatively with others.

Respond to information requests in a courteous, timely, and helpful manner.

Manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.

Access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with state and federal law.

Position Details:

Starting wage $20.00/Hour, negotiable based upon experience

7.5 hours per day / 180 days per year
