The cardiovascular technologist performs invasive cardiovascular procedures utilizing highly complex and technical monitoring equipment under the direction or prescription of a qualified physician. These procedures are performed on patients who have diagnoses of congenital heart disease, congestive heart disease, acquired heart disease, and coronary artery disease. The technologist has training and certification in advanced life support and is competent to recognize life-threatening changes during procedures. The patient populations are at a high risk for cardiopulmonary arrest and the technologist must be competent to assist with the rescue during these events. They mentor and train lower graded technicians, nurses, nursing students, and cardiovascular technology students on invasive cardiology procedures and assist the supervisor/manager with quality control and performance improvement activities. The incumbent must be able to be on-call and fulfill the obligations of on-call status. The Cardiology Procedure Lab Technician executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to managing complex systems. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
