FIRM DESCRIPTION: Jetton & Meredith, PLLC is a law firm representing clients in the areas of divorce, family law, criminal law, personal injury and worker’s compensation in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and all surrounding areas.


JOB SUMMARY: Jetton & Meredith seeks a mature, professional, energetic, and motivated Spanish speaking individual to join us as a Legal Assistant / Paralegal in our Charlotte office. The individual will offer ongoing assistance to a firm Partner while managing all Criminal, DWI, & Traffic law cases. The individual will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all established and potential new clients of the firm.


One distinctive feature of our law practice is that our clients have access to attorneys at all phases of their cases. The attorney and legal assistant will be actively involved and in close contact with multiple clients from beginning to end while handling all Criminal, DWI, and Traffic law cases. The legal assistant will be responsible for providing daily correspondences (both verbally and in writing) with all active and potential new clients who express interest and may wish to schedule an initial consultation with a Criminal or Traffic law attorney.


This position requires a minimum of 2-3 years relevant work experience in the legal field, preferably in the practice area of criminal or traffic law. Additional educational requirements are shown below. The individual in this position will assist the firm Partner in a variety of administrative duties and document management functions in connection with the practice of Criminal, DWI, and Traffic law cases.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Opening & closing client files;
  • Corresponding with clients to remind them of court dates, documents needed, payments, etc;
  • Adding upcoming court dates to the calendar;
  • Organizing client fields in preparation for court;
  • Tracking client payments / updating files;
  • Gathering initial case information from potential new clients;
  • General office duties: typing, filing, data entry;
  • Sending letters to the courthouse;
  • Gathering discovery and related client records prior to court;
  • Scheduling new client consultations;
  • Sending thank you letters;
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets;
  • Updating client information - address changes, new phone numbers, etc.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


  • A four year college degree and paralegal certificate is preferred.
  • Candidates who apply must have a minimum of 2-3 years related work experience in a law firm.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Requires excellent communication skills with a varied audience, including partners, other staff members, clients, and outside parties.
  • Requires an exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently while producing a high-quality work product.
  • Must be able to follow-up on assignment in situations where there is little or no guidance and have the capability to follow firm policies and related practice area directions without repeated reminders or making careless errors.
  • Requires a positive, flexible and committed attitude.
  • Candidates must have excellent time management skills while working independently in an atmosphere of frequent phone calls from new and existing clients and other normal interruptions during the workday.


Job Type: Full-time


Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
