We are seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join our team in supporting a law firm focused on property tax collections. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced legal environment. While prior legal or real estate experience is preferred, it is not required. This role involves substantial administrative support, data entry, title research, and occasional travel within Hardin and Newton Counties, Texas. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
This is a full-time, in-office position, with some commute needed throughout Hardin County, Texas and weekly commutes to Newton County, Texas.
Holidays, vacation, and sick time are included.
Title Research in the County offices and from the Law office.
Prepares and processes correspondence and legal documents, including pleadings, motions, judgments, orders, and notices.
Read, review, verify, and route correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
Ability to draft correspondence and documents with minimal direction and supervision.
Maintains calendars and dockets of litigation cases and other legal proceedings.
Set up and maintain computer databases.
Maintain organized files, including copies of all documents and correspondence.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
Answer phone calls and respond to general emails.
Welcomes guests and clients by greeting them in person or on the telephone, and by answering or directing inquiries.
Provide administrative support (mailing, copying, scanning, faxing, typing, filing, etc.).
Reasonable strength and lifting capabilities
Endurance and stamina required for periodic standing and frequent walks to and from neighboring offices and buildings as needed
Assist and plan public relations/client events
Manage and build on client relationships in the political climate
Title Research
Relevant training or qualification
Knowledge and experience of relevant software application
Processing and database management
Working knowledge of legal procedures and legal terminology
Knowledge of local and state filing rules
Proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and other language skills
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures
High school education or equivalent
Providing administrative support to attorneys
Basic understanding of computers and the ability to learn software systems
Extensive data entry and document preparation
Detail-oriented
Able to work with minimal supervision
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing
Motivated
Dependable
Strong work ethic
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
