PERSONNEL STATUS: Full Time
Under the close supervision of an administrative superior, provides maintenance services in support of the Animal Shelter to help vaccinate, feed and care for shelter animals, and perform minor maintenance and janitorial work on shelter grounds.
Acts as a lead worker and supervises one or more animal service personnel, as assigned.
Coordinates work schedules.
Tracks employee evaluations and helps maintain employee personnel files to include electronic employee database and providing information and reports as requested.
Tracks military, FMLA, and other leave as necessary.
Works with Human Resources when tracking leave and other personnel duties.
Assists with customer complaints, and employee related issues.
Assists with workers compensation claims and documents for employees, inmate workers, volunteers.
Works with Human Resources when filing claims.
Enters, processes, and reports on employee payroll and payroll reports.
Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes animal shelter rooms, buildings kennels, holding areas and grounds.
Assist with adoptions and keeping social media up to date on animals available for adoption.
Cleans and replenishes food and water bowls.
Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes, and restocks the shelter’s public bathrooms.
Helps vaccinate and evaluate animals to be placed in the Shelter’s adoption and/or rescue center.
Perform euthanasia and properly dispose of euthanized animals.
May assist in retrieving donated food and litter, load and unload the trailer, and store supplies.
Recognize animal health problems and bring them to the manager’s attention.
Cut and remove weeds surrounding shelter grounds.
Maintains and compiles with monthly and annual reports.
Files documents as required.
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff, oversees the daily workflow of the department, creating and managing team schedules, coach and engage employees
Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience: Some experience in the handling of animals or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of: Working knowledge of the various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals. Knowledge of basic techniques in animal control.
Skills and Abilities to: Skilled in restraining animals and giving vaccinations. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply laws and regulations of the County related to animal control. Ability to perform a variety of animal control activities. Ability to learn and utilize proper handling and muzzling techniques. Ability to administer animal vaccinations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
May require a valid Utah Driver’s License.
May be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
