About the job:


The Human Resources & Volunteer Coordinator provides essential support to the organization's daily HR operations, focusing on administrative HR duties and volunteer coordination. Under the supervision of the HR Manager, this position plays a key role in new hire onboarding, payroll support, and serving as the primary point of contact for volunteers at the Thrift Store. This role ensures smooth HR operations and continuity of service when the HR Manager is unavailable.


What You’ll Do:


Recruitment & Onboarding


  • Post jobs, screen applicants, schedule interviews, and prepare job offers
  • Run background checks in compliance with policy and state law
  • Conduct new hire orientations for Thrift Store and Council Admin staff
  • Support remote orientation for other program sites
  • Explain employee benefits and guide new hires through enrollment
  • Ensure all documents are properly filed and entered into our HRIS (Paylocity)


Employee Relations & Compliance


  • Assist with employee concerns confidentially and professionally
  • Track performance reviews and ensure timely completion
  • Support safety compliance efforts, including walkthroughs and trainings
  • Step in during HR Manager absences to support workers� comp reporting
  • Help monitor training compliance and update personnel records
  • Stay informed on labor law changes and compliance updates


Payroll & Benefits Support


  • Assist with processing semi-monthly payroll
  • Track timecard submissions and approvals
  • Support benefits open enrollment logistics and employee questions
  • Respond to inquiries about payroll, timekeeping, and benefits
  • Help distribute enrollment materials and assist with sign-ups


Volunteer Coordination


  • Oversee volunteer activities for the Thrift Store, including community volunteers and interns
  • Conduct onboarding and orientations for all volunteers
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and track engagement metrics


General HR Support


  • Provide administrative and project support to the HR Manager
  • Attend meetings and trainings as a representative of the HR team
  • Draft internal HR communications and announcements


What You Bring:


Minimum Education (or substitute experience) Required:


  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Associate degree or coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent experience, preferred.


Minimum Experience Required:


  • 1-2 years of experience in human resources, administrative support, or a related role, required.
  • Experience supporting HR functions such as recruitment, onboarding, or payroll, preferred.
  • Familiarity with state and federal employment laws and workplace compliance practices, preferred.
  • Experience working with HRIS or payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP) , preferred.
  • Volunteer coordination or nonprofit experience, preferred.


Skills Required:


  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and foster an inclusive, respectful work environment.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and comfortable learning new systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
