The beautifully renovated Homewood Suites/Hampton Inn & Suites in Downers Grove, IL is accepting resumes for the position of Human Resource Manager. This is a busy dual-brand property that is searching for a highly organized, experienced individual to lead the Human Resource Department.


REPORTS TO: General Manager/Corp. Director of HR


BASIC PURPOSE: Position is responsible for the Administration functions associated with Human Resources and Employee Management


FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Train on, oversee and assume responsibility for all payroll management systems on the property
  • Oversee the successful completion of benefit enrollment programs as required by the corporate office
  • Oversee the recruiting and hiring process at property-level, as well as onboarding of all new employees
  • Ensure that labor posters and postings are compliant and up-to-date, and seek a resolution when/if this area is found to be deficient
  • Work as a moderator between employees and management when situations arise which need intervention, using discretion and the utmost professionalism while doing so.
  • Maintain the utmost confidentiality and security of sensitive documents and information, and abide by all labor and legal guidelines which may exist.
  • Know all company policies and procedures well, and ensure that these are being enforced at department level
  • Ensure that the disciplinary processes of the company are understood and property and fairly administered
  • Assist with the annual performance review process, guiding department managers in the efficient and fair evaluations of their employees
  • Ensure that the accident and incident reporting program is in place on the property, and that all reports are completed in a thorough and timely manner
  • Ensure that all programs which are in place (Everify, Background screening, etc.) are understood, monitored and maintained in a compliant manner
  • Track and maintain all Workes Compensation claims, EEOC claims, Unemployment claims and any other employee and guest-related documents which may arise, seeking the guidance of the Corp. Director of HR when needed.
  • Work with the property-level maintenance staff and department managers to ensure that safety practices are in place and observed, and that safety issues are immediately addressed and rectified
  • Maintain all employee files to comply with Labor laws of the state in which the property operates
  • Be a physically active part of the management team, which means walking the floors to speak with employees, checking back-of-the-house areas for safety issues, speaking with employee on a daily basis in their departments, etc.
When needed, assist other departments and employees with any tasks requested by the General Manager*


Knowledge and Skills:


Education: High School Diploma Required, with college degree preferred


Experience: Experience required by position is from 3-4 of employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s)


Number of employees supervised: This position will typically not require supervising of other employees


Travel required: This position will require minimal travel, but may require attending of job fairs, conferences or additional events at the request of the GM


Hours Required: This position may require hours in excess of a standard 40-hour work week. Position requires whatever hours are necessary to accomplish the requires tasks. Must adhere to the time and attendance policies set forth by the company.


ENVIRONMENT: Physical Job Requirements


Mobility; including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, standing, walking, climbing of stairs, bending and kneeling


While much of this position will be concentrated on office functions, this is also a hands-on management position. This means that the employee must be able to:


· walk the floors during training and orientation, as well as daily welfare walks


· assist with function and event set-up and take-down


· attend and participate in conferences and off-site meetings


· assist with departmental needs as they arise


· serve as an active part of the management team at the request of the General Manager.


Driving


Limited driving on an occasional basis for supplies, equipment, etc. May be required to assist with shuttle service when needed.


Work Environment


  • Position, although primarily focused indoors, may require exterior work and exposure to extreme heat and/or cold.


Hearing/Speech/Vision


  • Position requires the employee to be able to clearly communicate with, understand, and respond to direction
  • Must be able to train, mentor, administer discipline to and communicate policies and procedures to the engineering staff
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with guests and coworkers in a professional and articulate manner
  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills, including the ability to compose business emails
  • Must be able to visually monitor, read and respond to reports, written requests, and written policies and procedures


Chemicals/Agents: Position may requires exposure to or use of:


Water treatments, industrial strength cleaning agents, pool and spa chemicals, degreasers and other assorted and varied cleaning agents


Equipment Operation


Position requires the frequent use of a variety of standard office and administrative systems, such as computer, phone and copying equipment.


This position also includes the knowledge of basic safety functions and operation of fire suppression systems, water systems, and other basic maintenance processes.
