The Office of Research and Policy Innovation (ORPI) informs high-level decision-making across DSS-HRA-DHS. Government Grants Strategy (GGS) is a unit of ORPI that is responsible for providing strategic direction in the pursuit and management of competitive government grants. The GGS team ensures alignment between the agency’s goals and funding opportunities pursued to support critical work across DSS-HRA-DHS programs.


The Office of Research and Policy Innovation (ORPI) is recruiting for one (1) City Research Scientist level I to function as a Government Grants Coordinator who will:


  • Identify relevant competitive federal and state grant opportunities by monitoring federal and state communications and websites and assessing the alignment between grant notices and agency programming and priorities.


  • Contribute to grant writing, monitoring and administration, modification and renewal requests, and interim and final project reporting, ensuring alignment with grantor goals and requirements.


  • Compile funder and internal programmatic and financial reports, manage communication with relevant parties, and maintain electronic files including tracking deliverables and timelines.


Work Location: 4 WTC


Hours/Schedule: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Minimum Qualifications


1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.


To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:


1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or


2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or


3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.


NOTE:


Probationary Period


Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.


Preferred Skills


  • Experience with grant proposal research, development, monitoring, and reporting. - Knowledge of MS Office - Experience interpreting federal rules and regulations. - Working knowledge of federal and state social policies and social service programs.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
