The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia prosecutes federal criminal offenses and defends the interests of the United States in civil cases. The office seeks to maintain the highest standards of excellence in the enforcement of federal laws and the representation of the United States. The Southern District of West Virginia covers 23 counties of the state's 55 counties. The headquarters office is located in Charleston.
Job Description
The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia is seeking an experienced, highly qualified litigator for the position of Assistant United States Attorney(AUSA). The applicant selected will be responsible for a diverse caseload in the Financial Litigation Program (FLP). FLP's primary responsibility is recovering assets to pay fines and restitution in criminal cases, including pre-judgment identification, freezing of assets and handling post-judgment enforcement matters. FLP is also responsible for commencing affirmative civil actions to recover debt owed to federal agencies and managing all civil bankruptcy matters. The FLP AUSA will be responsible for handling a large and active caseload, filing pleadings, appealing in both U.S. District Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court, providing prompt legal advice to agencies, and representing the United States in other legal matters as may be assigned.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Qualifications
United States citizenship is required.
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and have at least one year post-J.D. experience. Applicants must be an active member in good standing of the bar (any jurisdiction).
In addition, the Local Rules for the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia require all Assistant United States Attorneys to become members of the West Virginia State Bar within one year of appointment.
Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability and the faculty to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills as well as strong research and interpersonal skills and good judgment.
Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff and client agencies. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment.

Salary
AUSA pay is administratively determined based on the years of professional attorney experience. The range of base pay is $63,163 to - $165,209 per year.
