Position Summary


The Director of Physical Therapy supervises the delivery of physical therapy programs to patients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing guidance, and monitoring the performance of the physical therapy staff. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


The key duties and responsibilities of the Director of Physical Therapy include but are not limited to:


  • Responsibility for overall supervision of therapy staff and coordination of the administrative functions of the clinic.
  • Provides physical therapy evaluations and treatments. Amount is dependent upon size and scope of clinic.
  • Assures patients are effectively and timely screened, evaluated, treated, and documented appropriately.
  • Records treatment charges daily and completes charge tickets in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Records daily treatment notes, monthly progress notes timely and completely.
  • Communicates and coordinates department functions with physicians and therapy staff in a constructive manner that helps build team rapport and therapy effectiveness.
  • Ensures that referrals are managed, tracked and reported to Practice leadership.
  • Review and revise policies and procedures for the department and assures employees compliance.
  • Works with management to assure staffing for the clinic is adequate in meeting patient needs.
  • Reviews revenue and expense reports and provides information that can be used to determine the cost effectiveness of staffing and equipment for the patient load.
  • In collaboration with the CSO Operations, Executive Director and/or Physician leadership as appropriate: Recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching and feedback and employment decisions of direct reports and the care center. Establish and promote a rapport in and among departments to promote interdisciplinary decision-making in daily operations.
  • Assures that the clinical department complies with federal and state regulations
  • Directs ongoing staff meetings and participates in utilization review, administrative, financial, and operative meetings.
  • Periodically audits medical records, patient charges, and documentation for compliance to federal regulations, payor contracts and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff maintain continuing education and maintenance of physical or occupational therapist licenses in Washington State.
  • Ensures necessary administrative functions are completed in a timely manner to include Supply Chain, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Revenue Cycle Functions.
  • Ensures that the clinic physical plant is maintained & equipment is serviced, maintains relationship with landlord to ensure that lease terms are met, purchases necessary equipment. Assists with negotiation of space lease as needed.
  • Ensures that clinic is adequately supplied with necessary IT equipment and that equipment and software is maintained for optimal function.
  • Customer service as it relates to satisfaction with care and billing. (conflict resolution and de-escalation)
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education/Experience


  • Currently licensed as a physical/occupational therapist in Washington State.
  • Minimum of 10 years� experience as a licensed physical therapist in an outpatient setting.
  • Prior operations, human resources and people management, physician relations, strategy and financial management required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Executives, operations management, and external partners
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and families regarding therapy services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of physical/occupational therapy principles and practices.
  • Use of EMR and Practice Management System
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word skills; Practice management systems and electronic medical records.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
