Director of Development and Marketing

United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Development and Marketing to lead our fundraising, marketing, and volunteer engagement efforts. This role is critical to advancing our mission of improving lives and creating opportunities for every person in our community. The Director will oversee all aspects of fund development, brand visibility, donor and volunteer engagement, and communications. This individual will manage our annual giving campaigns, steward donor relationships, expand marketing and communications efforts, and lead Volunteer United, our community-wide volunteer initiative. The Director will serve as the primary fundraising and marketing lead in Harvey County while supporting and growing our presence in Marion County.

• Plan, execute, and evaluate annual workplace giving campaigns.
  
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors and legacy gift prospects.
  
• Build creative strategies to grow individual giving through direct mail, digital campaigns, and events.
  
• Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  
• Ensure timely reporting and compliance with funder guidelines.
  
• Maintain and optimize donor records and communications using CRM tools.
  
• Develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan that elevates the United Way brand and deepens community engagement.
  
• Oversee all public-facing communications, including newsletters, press releases, website, and social media platforms.
  
• Collaborate with staff and community partners to highlight program impact, community needs, and advocacy efforts.
  
• Create donor-centered materials including campaign brochures, impact reports, and stewardship content.
  
• Manage media relations and ensure a consistent voice and visual identity across all platforms.
  
• Lead Volunteer United, UWHMC�s volunteer coordination and engagement program.
  
• Recruit, retain, and recognize volunteers and volunteer groups.
  
• Build and maintain partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups to connect community members to meaningful volunteer opportunities.
  
• Develop systems to track volunteer participation and impact.
  
• Coordinate community-wide days of service and volunteer recognition events.
  

• Bachelor�s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business or related field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education.
  
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or nonprofit advancement.
  
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred), Canva, Constant Contact, and social media platforms.
  
• Experience with donor databases, CRM platforms, and email marketing tools is strongly preferred.
  

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  
• Strong administrative, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  
• Initiative, self-discipline, and the ability to work without supervision.
  
• Dependable and reliable in meeting deadlines.
  
• Ability to work effectively with community leaders, demonstrating a blend of leadership presence and cooperative work style.
  
• Ability to engage diverse groups, build collaborative partnerships, and manage multiple projects.
  
• A passion for community health and a commitment to fostering equitable health outcomes.
  
• Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to cultural and community differences.
  

• Valid Driver�s License
  

The Director of Development and Marketing is a full-time, exempt employee of United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties, Inc. Normal workweek is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, however, hours for this position will be determined by community need, with some evening and weekend hours. This position will require travel throughout Harvey and Marion Counties and occasionally across the state of Kansas.
