Construction Inspector- Bridge and Highway

Position Overview

ATANE Consulting is seeking a

highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Inspector to support highway and bridge construction projects across Rhode Island. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with at least 5 years of relevant experience in civil infrastructure inspection and a strong familiarity with standards from agencies such as RIDOT, CTDOT, MassDOT, or MBTA.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that public works projects are built to the highest standards of

quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Construction Oversight: Inspect ongoing highway, bridge, and infrastructure construction activities to verify conformance with contract documents, technical specifications, and state requirements.
  
• Progress Monitoring: Track project schedules and verify that construction milestones and deadlines are met.
  
• Field Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily construction activities, including reports, field measurements, material quantities, and photo/video documentation.
  
• Material Testing: Conduct or observe field testing of construction materials such as concrete, soils, and asphalt; collect samples for laboratory analysis to ensure quality control.
  
• Administrative Support: Assist the Resident Engineer in project administration, ensuring timely and accurate documentation for compliance and reporting.
  
• Plan Review: Review project drawings, shop drawings, and safety procedures; document any field changes and assist in preparation of as-built plans.
  
• Safety Oversight: Enforce compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety procedures across all phases of construction.
  

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor�s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in construction inspection for highway, bridge, or similar civil infrastructure projects.
  
• Certifications:
  
• NICET Level II, III, or IV (Transportation/Construction) or equivalent - Required
  
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Certification - Required
  
• Additional certifications such as:
  
• ACI Grade I - Concrete Field Testing Technician
  
• ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector (CCTC)
  
• ATSSA Traffic Control Certification - Highly desirable
  
• Skills & Knowledge:
  
• Solid understanding of construction methods, safety practices, and transportation agency protocols
  
• Familiarity with RIDOT, CTDOT, MassDOT, or MBTA procedures and documentation standards
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction documentation tools
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Valid driver�s license and reliable transportation - Required
  

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $50.00+ per hour
Commensurate with experience, certifications, and qualifications.
