The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications from experienced attorneys who have a strong civil litigation background for the position of Assistant United States Attorney, with a primary focus on Affirmative Civil Enforcement. Attorneys doing this work are responsible for the investigation and prosecution of a variety of civil cases. These may include actions in which there have been false or fraudulent claims or false statements made to the United States, including healthcare fraud; violations of the Controlled Substances Act; violations of federal environmental laws; and other types of cases. Healthcare fraud cases commonly involve working alongside federal prosecutors through our parallel proceedings policy.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Applicant must be able to work well with client agencies and the public; possess superior oral and written advocacy skills; have strong character and interpersonal skills; have good judgement; and have demonstrated the capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment.
Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years of litigation experience, but candidates with less experience will be considered.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is

Type of Position: All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a 14 month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
