ABOUT THIS POSITION

Over 52 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2024, one of the busiest airports in the country and in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact over $44 billion annually.


The Aviation Department is seeking an Airfield Maintenance Worker I. This position performs a variety of construction and maintenance tasks on the airfield and streets of Sky Harbor International Airport as well as Deer Valley and Goodyear Airports. Tasks include asphalt crack sealing, concrete joint sealing, the installation, maintenance, repair of painted or thermoplastic ground markings, general grounds maintenance, setting up of barricades and warning devices to channel traffic around work zones, as well as assisting with concrete and asphalt installation and repair.


The incumbent must be capable of operating small to medium sized gasoline/diesel powered engine driven equipment. Individual assignments may require the use of skills in a variety of trades or may be specialized in one area.


Work hours: 3rd shift, 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM, Monday thru Thursday.

SALARY

Pay Range: $17.30 to $28.17 per hour.


Hiring Range: $17.30 to $23.18 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

--------------------------


  • One year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • New hire must obtain an Airport Operations Area (AOA) driving certification within their first year of service.
  • Working conditions:

+ Must be comfortable climbing ladders.

+ Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

+ Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

+ May require working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.

  • Experience with:

+ Airfield maintenance.

+ Grounds maintenance.

+ Crack and joint sealing.

+ Paint striping and ground marking.

+ Working in an airfield environment.

+ Public contact and customer service.

+ Chain link fence installation and repair.

+ Traffic barricade set-up and take down.

+ Concrete and asphalt installation and maintenance.

+ Operating small mechanical and/or power equipment.
