Overview:Classroom and laboratory experiences in the AgScience program is a key aspect of the instruction of students. FFA is also an integral part of the instructional program. All Agriculture Power and Engineering (AgScience) departments are expected to have an active FFA chapter. As a team member for this department there is an expectation of supporting the Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO- FFA). It is the duty of the teacher to serve as advisor for the local chapter. It is necessary that the teacher spend time in planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, and cooperative activities for students at the district, area, state, and national levels as an aspect of the State approved program of study to support the development of students in the Fundamentals of Agricultural Power and Engineering (FAPE), Agricultural Welding and Fabrication (AWF), and Power and Mechanical Systems (PMS), including small engine repair, aspects of HVAC, pneumatics, and supporting the work of the program with the Perkins Advisory Board. NCCER Credentialing and training with on-going updates to the program with credentialing are required. OSHA safety and construction certification is required in the classroom setting as well as for students to become certified in support of apprenticeable trades including: maintenance mechanic, iron worker, machinist, pipe welder, sheet metal, welding, mechanic, and metal fabrication.

Performance Responsibilities:

Student leadership programs and competitions will complement the overall programming. Outdoor classroom and greenhouse experiences are implemented during the school year. It is the responsibility of the teacher to organize and conduct an instructional program that will:

• Improve the quality of Agriculture Power and Engineering education instruction, counseling, management, and leadership to produce success for all students.
  
• Provide students with educational and equitable experiences leading to career preparation, continued education, and employment.
  
• Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction.
  
• Work towards preparing students for summer competition in the State Fair, COLT Leadership, FFA and other state leadership programs.
  
• Develop, maintain, and update curriculum and lessons that would align with district requirements for all courses offered in the state adopted pathway AgPower.
  
• Instructional materials and instructional methods used to make teaching and learning engaging and hands-on.
  
• Participates regularly in staff development activities for the vocational programming within the district and state
  
• Basic skills and abilities of students developed in the school laboratory with safety as a focus in the setting.
  
• Establish and maintain open basis of communication with students, parents, staff, administration and community.
  
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district and administrative policy (rosters, entries, registrations, etc.).
  
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and maintain discipline according to handbook.
  
• Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction.
  
• Supervising the shop/classroom and outdoor classroom used for students supervised agricultural experience in a safe and orderly manner.
  
• Provides data for student decisions and demonstrates flexibility in the resolution of student issues.
  
• Knowledge of and able to use the technology and equipment the pathway for instructional and hands-on approaches in the classroom.
  
• Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs of all students who receive instruction.
  
• Assisting students in selecting a program that fits their interests and abilities with collaboration and cooperation with the existing FFA Advisor(s).
  
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district and administrative policy (rosters, entries, registrations, field trips, FFA, etc.).
  
• Locating training partnerships or stations for students placed in a Work Based Learning experience.
  
• Coordinates with business partners and middle school level programming to support a working advisory committee according to State and school regulations
  
• Plan and conduct an organized program of instruction and/or community involvement with students that would integrate their knowledge and training into the school and/or local community.
  
• Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. required by the local, district, area, state, and office promptly, and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
  
• Participate in Professional Improvement/Development/Professional Learning Communities-demonstrating responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Attend State Professional Improvement Conference for AgScience Teachers.
  
• Attend summer workshops that are designed to provide professional skills and information. Train students during the school year and summer in order to prepare students for competition at the State Fair.
  
• Dress and conduct themselves in accord with professional standards.
  
• Participating and attending an advisory committee and others in determining improvements needed.
  
• Identifies and solves problems effectively
  
• Participating, engages in, and attends the scheduled Perkins Advisory committee sessions and develops their own Perkins Advisory team in support of the community business and program improvements as applicable.
  
• Making changes and adjustments when needed in order to develop and invigorate the existing program.
  
• As a member of the local school faculty, the agricultural science teacher is expected to cooperate fully with local administrators and keep them informed about the program. The teacher is also expected to work closely with local and county agricultural organizations/agencies.
  
• Supervise students at all off-campus activities such as conventions, contests, workshops, field trips, etc., associated with the agriculture, food, and natural resources program and the FFA in accordance with school, district, and state policy.
  
• Support student competitions in the Delaware State Fair (available for up to 38 summer days including State Fair). Provide evidence of summer work experiences, curriculum, and assessment development. A written summer plan should be submitted and followed to their assigned immediate administrative supervisor. Salary will be based on standard teacher pay for the additional summer hours documented.
  
• Establish and maintain open basis of communication with students, parents, staff and administration.
  
• Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day consistent with contract obligations.
  
• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualification:Must be certified in the content area of Technical Education/Agricultural Science Certification
