ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Full Time, 100% In Person)

As the Oak Street Assistant Director, you will lead programs for youth in grades 4-8 and work closely with the Program Director to support overall program operations. You’ll help ensure that all policies and procedures are consistently followed and will assume oversight of the site in the Program Director’s absence. In this role, you will also assist in advancing key goals, including delivering high-quality, engaging programs, maintaining strong safety protocols, and providing coaching and support to staff.


Primary Responsibilities: Help to create a high-quality Club experience for a diverse group of young people-each with unique talents, interests, and life experiences - by:


  • Designing, planning and running engaging programs for Club members in grades 4-8
  • Leading site-wide recognition programs that celebrate positive behavior and that reinforce Club values
  • Providing leadership in the Program Director�s absence, overseeing overall program operations, as needed
  • Collaborating with education staff to ensure learning activities are integrated into overall Club offerings
  • Overseeing food program by ensuring pick up of food, and properly reporting to the Burlington School District (BSD), maintaining compliance with CACFP and other food program regulations. Serve as primarily liaison with BSD on food program.
  • Coordinating staff who are responsible for safely walking youth from their school (Integrated Arts Academy) to the Club
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with youth and parents/guardians including communication about Club member growth and behavior
  • Supporting the Program Director in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with Vermont childcare licensing requirements, membership standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and other laws and regulations.
  • Nurturing and developing relationships with community partners (i.e. Burlington School District)
  • Maintaining data, as needed, for external organizations such as grant funders


Additional Responsibilities:


  • Participating occasionally in special events and fundraising activities
  • Assisting with facility management as needed
  • Required to drive 12-passenger van periodically
  • Other duties as needed

Desired Competencies and Experiences:


  • A college degree is preferred, along with meeting the other �VT After School Childcare Programs†licensing requirements of section 5.2.
  • At least three years work experience with youth, with a focus on supporting the developmental needs of a diverse group of young people.
  • Experience - lived, professional or otherwise - working with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as people who are LGBTQ or �first in family†to attend college
  • Demonstrated success using trauma informed practices in behavior management
  • Group leadership and communication skills
  • CPR certification within first six months of employment is required
  • Ability to use technology to efficiently manage administrative processes


The Position:


  • Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, occasional nights and weekends. Planning time runs between 10:00 am and 2:45 pm, programming time runs between 2:45 and 5:30 pm.
  • Full time (40 hours a week)
  • Location: 62 Oak Street, Burlington Vermont
  • Compensation: Hourly rate $24 - $28/hour
