REPORTS TO: Executive Director - Nash County Travel & Tourism
HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Some evenings and rotating Saturdays are required. The person scheduled for Saturday will take the following Monday off.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position serves as a vital team member and the first point of contact for visitors, newcomers, tour groups, and tourism partners. The Administrative & Tourism Services Assistant supports the Executive Director by performing a wide range of responsibilities, including office management, visitor relations, marketing support, and tourism coordination. Duties involve regular interaction with the public, community partners, hoteliers, meeting planners, and the media.
The ideal candidate is creative, customer-service oriented, highly organized, and has strong communication and multitasking skills. A knowledge of Nash County and the Rocky Mount area is essential, as is a passion for supporting local tourism and enhancing the visitor experience.

Serve as the front-line contact for walk-in visitors, phone inquiries, and general tourism questions
Assist with developing and implementing marketing, sales, and event strategies aligned with the goals of Nash County Travel & Tourism
Maintain the organization’s visitor showroom, printed materials, displays, and restrooms to ensure a welcoming and professional appearance
Prepare gift bags and welcome materials for trade shows, conferences, tournaments, and group events
Support planning and execution of bid proposals for events and sports tournaments in coordination with local venues, hoteliers, and stakeholders
Establish and maintain strong relationships with restaurants, hotels, local attractions, and other tourism partners
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and meeting materials for internal and external use
Help author or edit press releases, articles, and social media content as needed
Track visitor inquiries and partner communications in the CRM system for accurate reporting
Lead visitor and client service support during group and sports events to ensure an excellent experience
Provide assistance with general office functions including data entry, mailings, ordering supplies, filing, and document organization
Monitor and respond to the general email inbox and main phone line
Maintain accurate inventory of tourism brochures and printed materials
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to support the mission of the organization and overall team success

Strong knowledge of Nash County and the Rocky Mount area
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); comfortable with CRM platforms
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Friendly and confident when interacting with the public
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with new and existing tourism partners
Skilled in organizing tasks, managing time, and balancing multiple responsibilities
Familiarity with basic social media tools or graphic design software (e.g., Canva) is a plus
Adaptable and positive in fast-paced or event-driven environments
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. (e.g., boxes of brochures, event materials)
Ability to climb stairs while carrying materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods

Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle required
A background check and negative drug test are required prior to employment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Previous experience at a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree in tourism, hospitality, marketing, or related field preferred
Minimum of three years’ experience in tourism, sales, hospitality, or marketing required
