POSITION DESCRIPTION


Title: Youth Development Professional


Supervisor: Unit Director


Origination Date: 6/1/15 FLSA: Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:


This position, under the direction of the Unit Director, plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates activities provided within specific areas, such as Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education. Also is responsible for the supervision and well-being of the youth.


Prepare Youth for Success


  • Understand and implement all Club policies and procedures including Club rules, discipline and reward policy, Club emergency plan, Parent/Guardian handbook, etc.
  • Engage with Club members at all times to ensure members are provided with the best experience possible; promote safety of members and quality in programs at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of Club programs by:
  • Planning, organizing and implementing a range of program services and activities for Club members
  • Initiating new programs with the approval of your Unit Director and Director of Program Services.
  • Using your creativity and spontaneity to promote and stimulate program participation
  • Ensure quality by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly staff meetings with your Unit Director.


Health & Safety


  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.
  • Manage facilities and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order. Participate in cleaning the Club facilities each day.
  • Report any staff or child accidents/incidents or suspected child abuse injury to the Unit Director or
  • Director of Program Services as soon as possible. Unit Director will fill out report, and follow all emergency procedures


Additional Responsibilities and Expectations


  • Exercising flexibility within your job responsibilities. May be asked to lead a program or activity at short notice.
  • Other responsibilities as designated by the Unit Director, Program Director or Executive Staff.
  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • May be required to drive Club vehicle.


Qualifications & Skills


  • High School diploma required with some college experience or a combination of experience.
  • Minimum of one year experience working directly with school aged youth and knowledge of youth development is preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
  • Valid State Driver�s License
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth and handle difficult behaviors.
  • Ability to work with a team of staff and hold your fellow staff members accountable.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Knowledge of the Club�s mission, programs, and resources.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by Unit Director or Executive Staff


Physical Requirements


Must have the ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours each day and complete other essential functions of the position and other duties as assigned. Necessary mental requirements include concentration and focus on fulfilling the mission of The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gaston.


Job Type: Part-time


Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour


Expected hours: 20 - 28 per week
