The Town of Milford is seeking a dedicated and skilled team player to join the Water Department as a System Operator. The Milford Water Department’s system is comprised of two treatment facilities, four pump stations, three storage tanks, and approximately 9,300 service connections. The Water System Operator position will be responsible for all facets of water operations. The operator will be asked to conduct a variety ofdistribution and treatment related activities.
· Assists with excavations and repairs to water system appurtenances including, but not limited to water mains, services, hydrants, and related treatment plant facilities/equipment and meters.
· Installs new facilities and equipment.
· Performs system maintenance on treatment plant and distribution facilities/equipment and/or replacement of existing facilities/equipment as required. May operate associated equipment involved with the excavation and repair/installation of water mains, pipes, valves etc. including power saw, road saw, jack hammer, power tools, shovel, pick, hand tools, and other equipment associated with excavation and repair/installation of water pipes, valves etc.
· Repairs and replaces chemical pumps, chemical feed equipment, and piping. Work may include landscaping activities and concrete placement activities.
· All other related duties as assigned.
· High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position. A valid driver’s license is required as well as the ability to obtain a 1T or 1D Massachusetts Drinking Water License within six (6) months of hire. Must reside within a half hour drive from the department office at 66 Dilla Street, Milford, Ma.
· Experience with water system controls is helpful as well as general computer experience. Bilingual in English and Portuguese or English and Spanish is beneficial. A good understanding of water distribution construction and operations is highly desirable.
· Knowledge of excavation safety practices and the ability to follow company safety procedures and practices is essential.
· Must have the ability to read, analyze, interpret and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
· Plan interpretation and regulation comprehension is essential.
Starting pay is a step 1, $27.51 per hour on a scale that ranges from $27.51 to $37.15 per hour.
