Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Office Administrator and the general direction of the Victim Unit Coordinator, performs supporting tasks for victims of crimes including serving as a liaison between victims and the Prosecutor’s office, explaining court procedures to victims and assisting victims with medical-related needs.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Meets with victims and explains procedures involving court appearances, victim rights, and victim compensation.
  • Serves a liaison between Office of the Prosecutor and victims of crime. Assists prosecutors in court as needed.
  • Organizes and coordinates victim and/or witness escort as needed.
  • Provides juvenile rights as required by law.
  • Assists victims in obtaining medical care, counseling, and other services as needed.
  • Assists in leading victims� rights groups/organizations.
  • Disseminates victim rights flyers, brochures, pamphlets, etc. to police agencies for distribution.
  • Participates in various community events and may be required to serve on committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

------------------


  • The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of an Associate�s Degree in paralegal or related criminal justice area.
  • Two to three years of work experience, preferably dealing with crime victim issues.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively utilize word processing, database, and spreadsheet software systems.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with County personnel and the general public in situations requiring tact and patience.
  • Mental ability to frequently handle simultaneous requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent distractions due to people and/or telephone calls. Incumbent is frequently required to handle pressures dealing with concerned citizens, employees, etc.

Working Conditions


  • Work includes occasional exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and/or noise.
  • Incumbent may be occasionally exposed to the threat of bodily injury.
  • Occasional travel to various County locations is required.
  • Intermittent or cyclical work pressures are frequently experienced.
  • Extended work days (beyond eight hours/day) are occasionally required.
