The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track


faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). We are seeking a veterinary clinician-scientist with an active or


planned foundational or translational research program focused on aging and extending healthspan. Candidates with expertise


in a broad range of clinical and/or research areas related to healthspan are encouraged to apply.


We aim to build upon and expand existing strengths within the School of Veterinary Medicine and foster collaborative


research across UW-Madison through the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly (RISE)-THRIVE (Transforming


Healthspan through Research, InnoVation, and Education) initiative (https://rise.wisc.edu/rise-thrive/). RISE-THRIVE is a


campus-wide hiring initiative designed to harness and grow the university's reputation as a global powerhouse in


interdisciplinary health research-translating both medical discoveries and innovative social science approaches into tangibly


healthier lives for Wisconsinites and people and communities around the world.


The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a strong and collaborative research program. Competitive


candidates will leverage existing strengths within the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and more broadly within


the UW-Madison campus community. The candidate will strive to make basic or clinical science discoveries that transform


both animal and human health, prioritizing novel approaches to increase healthspan in humans and companion animals. This


may include programs that advance knowledge in therapeutics, clinical-translational diagnostics, precision medicine,


biomarkers, animal modeling, topics related to OneHealth, the microbiome in health and disease, immunology, nutrition and


healthy aging, behavior, cognition, or the human-animal bond. Candidates with research program emphases outside of these

The UW School of Veterinary Medicine is a top-ranked veterinary school with exceptional strengths in foundational and


clinical/translational research in disciplines including infectious disease and immunology, oncology, orthopedics, diagnostic


imaging, neuroscience, internal medicine, regenerative medicine and stem cell biology, developmental biology, and


comparative ophthalmology. The School of Veterinary Medicine is a wonderful workplace with enthusiastic students,


veterinary nurses, interns, residents, and other faculty specialists working together to provide excellent veterinary medical


care. In addition to developing a strong extramurally funded research program, the successful candidate is expected to make


significant contributions to the veterinary curriculum and to mentor graduate students. The candidate will teach the next generation of veterinary practitioners in a new competency-based veterinary curriculum. Participation in departmental and


university service and commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment are expected. Candidates are


likewise encouraged to make contributions to patient care and diagnostic medicine mission of the Veterinary Medical


Teaching Hospital and School of Veterinary Medicine.


Responsibilities:


The candidate will participate in the School of Veterinary Medicine's research, patient care/diagnostic, teaching, and service


programs. Specifically, they will be expected to conduct collaborative extramurally funded research in an area related to


healthy aging and extending healthspan; teach veterinary medical or other graduate students in relevant disciplines; train


graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; and provide academic service to the Department, School of Veterinary Medicine,


and University. The School will support candidates who would like to provide clinical or diagnostics medical service.


The approximate distribution of effort will be:


50-70% research,


10-20% teaching,


0-20% patient care/diagnostic medicine,


10% academic service


Individuals with NIH K awards will commit 75% research effort during the award period.


This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) Initiative. Through accelerated


and strategic faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased student and


educational opportunities, RISE addresses complex societal challenges of importance to the state, nation and world. Building


on UW-Madison's strengths, RISE expands the Universit's successful track record of connecting with communities and


industry on collaborative solutions.


Over the next three academic years, UW-Madison will substantially increase current hiring levels, bringing 150 new RISE


faculty to campus. Candidates hired through RISE will join a community of scholars working across disciplines, schools and


colleges on research, teaching and outreach endeavors. The community will engage regularly in venues such as seminar series


and colloquia to share ongoing projects and identify opportunities to work together. The University will support the
