Why does the job exist?
The general purpose of the position is to protect public health by managing the Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP) and provide supervision to four team members. The Utility Operator Certification Team Lead supports the Utility Operator Certification Program Manager in their role as Authority for New Mexico in accordance with the NM Utility Operator Certification Act and related state and federal regulations. The program supports water and wastewater utility operators by providing technical assistance, training, testing, and certification to support public water systems in providing high quality water output meeting applicable federal and state regulations.

Ideal Candidate
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in a related Water Resources discipline (Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Biology, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering) and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with some exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Occasionally requires travel to communities or partner agencies and some weekend trainings.
