Underwriter

As an Underwriter supporting newly developed platforms and processes, your role is critical in helping deliver world-class experiences to our customers. Vertigo underwrites a diverse mix of business and industry classes. We seek to outperform our competitors with a focus on understanding client’s priorities and developing creative risk solutions to meet their long-term workers’ compensation needs.

• Underwrite new submissions to ensure new policies are correct, per guidelines
  
• Process endorsements, cancellations and reinstatements, handle billing issues and assist in completing policy issuance
  
• Review all underwriting information to include applications, photographs, elevation certificates and third-party internet resources to correctly underwrite the policy
  
• Develop and submit underwriting referrals according to the created processes
  
• Monitor key metrics to formulate corrective action impacting new business hit, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratio
  
• Achieve company growth objectives by building a robust pipeline of viable opportunities and displaying strong sales behaviors to successfully acquire new accounts
  
• Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends, and make recommendations as a subject matter expert of this information with team members
  
• Manage agency relationships and serve as lead client contact
  
• Provide customer service to agents through phone support, online chat and emails
  
• De-escalate difficult customers and bring situations to complete resolution
  
• Actively and consistently participate in and contribute to group activities to include daily huddles, team meetings, and training opportunities
  
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external partners to ensure that your accounts receive a high level of service.
  
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of time management techniques by working independently with moderate supervision and as a participating and contributing member of a team
  
• Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.
  

• Bachelor�s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  
• Basic to intermediate technical knowledge of systems and procedures
  
• Basic computer knowledge and comfortable using the Microsoft suite. Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  

• Recent college graduates who were active and invested in extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, student government, academic or social organizations.
  
• Experience working in the insurance, financial or other professional industries
  
• Excellent communication, collaboration, & problem solving skills
  
• Task-oriented and excellent follow-through/follow-up
  
• Experience working in a virtual team environment
  
• Excitement to be integral in the start-up success

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,500.00 - $55,334.00 per year
