Truck Driver

Reports to: General Manager

Hours per week: 40 minimum

Non-Exempt, Hourly

General Summary of the Position

Perform a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving equipment and freight to and from the job site in support of Pro Crane Services and EBM Construction. Responsible for general yard duties; loading/unloading parts/freight; assisting with truck, van and crane maintenance and assisting with Construction Crew’s &/or Crane Operator’s as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations and double-axel service trucks to transport equipment and freight to and from the job sites.
  
• May plan route to ensure economical use of time and equipment.
  
• Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment to ensure mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  
• Report vehicle accidents, traffic violations or damage; Refer defects or repairs to fleet mechanic; keep trucks and equipment clean.
  
• Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  
• Maintain logs of working hours, vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and local regulations.
  
• Secure cargo for transport, using straps, blocks, chains, binders or covers.
  
• Load or unload bundles, equipment or materials to/from trucks; move bundles, equipment or materials to storage or work areas using various material handling equipment.
  
• Place blocks and outriggers by cranes to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
  
• Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for high lifting.
  
• Material handling and storage; heaving lifting (50-90 lbs.), pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, walking, forward/above shoulder reaching and balancing for long periods of time; performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of iPad technology to complete and upload job tickets, trip sheets and other necessary paperwork.
  
• Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
  
• Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in basic construction.
  
• Review daily work schedules to determine and prioritize work load.
  
• Apply safe shut-down and securing procedures.
  
• Able to climb and work safely at heights; following all safety procedures.
  
• Ability to work safely in tight, restricted spaces; following all safety procedures.
  
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete daily activities according to work schedules.
  
• Maintain a clean job site; pick up/care for/store all tools, equipment and machinery and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  
• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions in English for efficiency in cooperative work assignments, to follow and promote safe work practices, and prepare and submit consistent, accurate reports and time keeping.
  
• Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  

Education, Training and Experience

• High School graduate or G.E.D. required.
  
• At least one year experience as truck driver preferred.
  
• Experience in agricultural or construction industries, helpful.
  
• Experienced in proper use of tools, equipment and materials to assemble, install, dismantle, modify, repair and maintain machinery and facilities for smooth and continuous operation.
  
• Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
  
• Experience in verbal and hand signals to guide crane operators preferred.
  

Work Context

• Attend work as scheduled.
  
• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.
  
• Must be able to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and reach; lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object. (Occasionally lift 90 lbs., frequently lift 50 lbs.)
  
• Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  
• Noise level is generally loud.
  
• Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  
• Excellent stamina is required.
  

Special Requirements

• Valid Class A, unrestricted (manual transmission) commercial driver�s license required.
  
• Pass PPPO, General Construction Physical and Drug Screen required.
  
• Must be 21 or older.
  
• Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs to include FMSCA Clearinghouse.
  
• Occasional overnight travel
  

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
