Direct Report: Building Principal


Purpose: The teaching methods coach is a building-embedded instructional leader, funded through Title and/or State resources, who partners with classroom teachers to enhance instructional practices and improve student achievement. This role provides professional support in implementing curriculum, applying evidence-based strategies, and making data-informed instructional decisions to strengthen all tiers of instruction. As a key member of the school improvement team, the Academic Coach plays a vital role in advancing building-level goals aligned to the Saint Joseph School District Continuous School Improvement Plan, promoting access to rigorous instruction, and ensuring high-quality learning experiences for all students.


Essential Job Functions:


The Academic Coach must be able to:

+ Instructional Support

  • Collaborate with teachers to plan, implement, and reflect on instruction aligned to district and state curricula.
  • Conduct coaching cycles - including observation, modeling & teaching, co-teaching, and feedback - to support instructional improvement.
  • Guide teachers in the use of classroom and district assessments to inform and adjust instruction.
  • Support teams in analyzing classroom, grade-level, and school-wide data to identify instructional gaps and improve learning outcomes.
  • Design and facilitate job-embedded professional learning and lead professional learning communities (PLCs) aligned with school improvement goals, student achievement data, and instructional growth.
  • Plan coaching visits and study group focus areas using data from classroom observations and student outcome data.

+ Professional Learning & Development

  • Lead and support building-level professional development planning and provide follow-up to ensure successful transfer of learning into classroom practice.
  • Mentor new teachers and provide orientation to district resources, instructional expectations, and assessment tools.
  • Facilitate teacher study groups that promote reflective practice and collaboration.

+ Collaboration & School Improvement

  • Collaborate with the building leadership team to support continuous school improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a positive and productive classroom environment while supporting effective classroom management and discipline.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, administrators, and stakeholders.

+ Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend work regularly and punctually, fulfilling responsibilities with reliability and consistency.
  • Read, comprehend, and interpret professional materials.
  • Integrate technology effectively into teaching, learning, coaching, and data analysis to support instructional improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of school and district instructional priorities.
