Provides assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with obtaining temporary restraining orders, navigating civil court proceedings and processes, safety planning, and resources. Coordinates different community members to ensure the client has the services needed to safely proceed with court proceedings.
· Provides trauma-informed direct services to victims of domestic abuse including support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and information and referrals to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault involved in court proceedings.
· Advises victims of domestic violence and sexual assault crimes of rights and provides assistance in securing those rights.
· Informs victims of the availability of protective orders and provides assistance to victims in obtaining orders when appropriate.
· Monitors the justice system’s response to and treatment of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault crimes.
· Takes appropriate steps to deal with emergency situations with the goal of maintaining the safety of all clients.
· Responds effectively to challenging situations with clients.
· Understands all civil court proceedings, documents, language, and processes in Newport County and throughout the state as needed to provide appropriate support to clients.
· Provides follow-up case management to clients in need.
· Provides ongoing guidance and information to clients to navigate the legal system during civil court proceedings.
· Collaborates and learn to implement the Law Enforcement Advocacy program.
· Adheres to agency policies and work rules, including strict adherence to WRC confidentiality policies and code of ethics.
· Maintains client and Agency files, statistics, forms, and other record keeping, as required.
· Completes all paperwork and enter it into the client records database in a timely manner.
· Attends and actively participates in agency meetings as required, including department meetings and regularly scheduled supervision meetings.
· Identifies and consults with management on any potentially high-risk client situations and/or any areas of concern about services or the Agency.
· Presents ideas for service delivery improvements.
· Maintains professional boundaries.
· Keeps abreast of all changes in policies and procedures, new community resources, and other information.
· Associate’s degree in human services or related field or equivalent experience.
· Basic knowledge of domestic violence issues.
· Basic knowledge of trauma informed care and empowerment philosophy of advocacy.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
· Emotional maturity with sensitivity to the needs of domestic violence victims and families.
· Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
· Ability to work with diverse populations.
· Ability to interact sensitively with traumatized populations and to handle crisis appropriately.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.
· Ability to quickly assess volatile situations and strong judgement skills to resolve or diffuse situations.
