MCPS Official Job DescriptionSummary Description:


Under direction, supervises the Applied Research Unit and Program Evaluation Unit in the Office of Shared Accountability. Plans, designs and conducts research to support complex evaluation/research activities. Trains and supervises staff in data analysis and the use of appropriate statistical methods. Directs the collection and processing of data used to determine the effectiveness of educational programs and initiatives. Develops data collection instruments, analyzes data, critiques the writing and methodologies of other staff members. Oversees rigorous research that informs the development of tools, models, and benchmarks for use in data-driven decision-making throughout the school system. Physical Demands: None. Special Requirements: Occasional overtime, night and weekend work.


Knowledge Skills Abilities:


Extensive knowledge of social science research and evaluation methodology and statistics. Knowledge of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or equivalent statistical software. Ability to train personnel in research skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, technical information in a way that is understandable to people without technical training. Knowledge of quality management, systems thinking, and strategic planning are highly desirable. Ability to work across multiple projects and negotiate competing deadlines. Planning and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence others and offer strategic perspective. Excellent interpersonal skills.


Education Training Experience:


Master^s degree required; doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a social science area related to the work of the Office of Shared Accountability (e.g., education, psychology, sociology, psychometrics, etc.) preferred. Experience using SPSS, spreadsheets, and relational database systems are highly desirable.Certificate License:None.
