Student Outreach Coordinator

This student position will support the Department of Religious Studies by contributing to content development, student engagement, and outreach initiatives. The primary focus will be researching and summarizing current events and news stories related to religion in public life, and sharing content suggestions with the department’s social media specialist. The role will also involve coordinating and conducting short video interviews with Religious Studies students to showcase their experiences. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with departmental events, communications projects, and other tasks as assigned. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in media, communication, religion in society, or public engagement.

• Conduct research on current events, news stories, and relevant articles that explore the role of religion in public life.
  
• Summarize key findings and provide curated content suggestions to the department�s social media specialist for use in educational and outreach efforts.
  

• Initiate contact with students enrolled in Religious Studies courses or pursuing the major/minor to schedule and conduct brief video interviews. These interviews will showcase student perspectives and experiences, contributing to the department�s outreach and promotional materials.
  

• Provide support for a variety of evolving departmental projects. Tasks may include assistance with event planning, general clerical work, or participating in creative initiatives related to communication and public engagement.

• Student must be a Religious Studies Major or Minor as indicated on application materials.

• Strong communication skills for coordinating with staff, faculty, and other student workers as indicated on application materials.
  
• Willingness and flexibility to attend department-sponsored events as needed as indicated on application materials.

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
