The Student Management Specialist (SMS), a teacher supervised by the school administrators, develops and conducts prevention strategies, behavior plans, and programs of intervention for students experiencing behavioral challenges in school. The SMS works closely with school staff to coach and develop staff skills in classroom management, conflict resolution, culturally responsive behavior systems, and building effective classroom community according to research-based practices. The SMS work will be grounded in the principles of restorative justice: in repairing harm, building peace and transforming students and staff experiences at school. The SMS will assist teachers in collecting data to be used to identify areas of strength and need. The SMS will participate in providing professional development for staff as well as meeting with parents and teachers to collaborate on student discipline matters.
