The Research and Development Science group (R&D Science) at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand, is seeking an innovative and accomplished Staff Scientist to join our growing team on our mission to develop game-changing analytical instrumentation and assays. As a part of the Product Development Team, you will work among other innovative, supportive scientists and engineers that have a passion for product development and a knack for disrupting the way people characterize their samples. Our team works on exciting technologies for analysis of biomolecules and cells, including capillary electrophoresis, automated immunoassays, microfluidics, and cell sorting. In this role, you will have substantial autonomy and collaborate scientifically to develop novel consumables, reagents, and instruments to deliver cutting edge technologies to our global customer base.

+ Use considerable independence, judgement, and discretion to design and execute experiments to develop robust analytical assays and workflows for biomolecule characterization with a focus on Simple Western and Maurice product lines
+ Own and plan development activities within technical area of expertise, and may direct other scientists’ and engineers’ experiments on development of assays, reagents, instruments and consumables
+ Identify risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigation in area of responsibility and use data-driven decisions to advance projects and communicate status to cross-functional teams
+ Establish standards for experimental design and data analysis and define technical requirements for products with a focus on robustness, scalability, and cost
+ Independently drive innovation by identifying new areas of opportunity, evaluating technologies, and contributing to feasibility studies and product roadmaps, including submission of invention disclosures with others
+ Strong grasp of bioanalytical techniques, including electrophoretic and chromatographic separations and detection methods
+ Good understanding of biophysical and chemical property measurements
+ Provide technical leadership in lab and within cross-functional teams to guide and conduct development activities within defined timelines
+ Act as a scientific subject matter expert within the organization and externally (e.g., conferences)
+ Work closely with R&D Science, Engineering, Software, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to develop, validate, and release new products
+ Train, supervise, and mentor junior scientists and/or research associates
