About Us:


The Community Law Program (CLP) is a non-profit civil legal aid organization committed to the principle of providing access to justice for all. Our mission is to empower the most vulnerable in our community through the provision of pro bono legal assistance and representation, education about legal rights and responsibilities, and community outreach. We have a small staff, and we serve a high volume of people each year. Additionally, we strive to maintain a collaborative work environment that focuses on doing good for the community while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.


Position Overview:


We are seeking a self-motivated and highly effective attorney to join our team. The legal assistance that is needed will include a full range of services, from interviewing prospective clients, providing advice and counsel to clients, negotiating settlements before or after litigation, assisting clients with the preparation of responsive pleadings and motions, and providing full representation to clients in court proceedings. The ideal candidate will also have experience in volunteer recruitment, coordination, and/or support and in supervising paralegals and support staff. In addition, the ideal candidate will be expected to organize and participate in outreach and community education activities designed to educate the general public about legal rights and responsibilities, and to spread awareness about the free legal services provided by CLP. This position requires passion for Access to Justice, and a commitment to the provision of high-quality legal services to the most vulnerable members of our community.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Juris Doctorate (JD), Florida Bar licensed and in good standing with the Bar
  • A commitment to the provision of high-quality legal services to the most vulnerable members of our community, with kindness and dignity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively, while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in word processing, data entry, and other office computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to learn, use, and maintain legal server software effectively
  • Proficiency in time management and timekeeping
  • Willing to work in a collaborative environment as a team player
  • Must pass background check prior to hire


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in legal aid services or other public interest setting
  • Experience supervising others in a legal setting
  • Recent experience in bankruptcy, guardianship, probate, family, expungement, consumer, or other civil law
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices in client service.
  • Sympathetic and compassionate understanding of the social, economic, and legal issues faced by low-income individuals with limited access to such services
  • Bilingual
