Position Overview:


MP Materials is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Tax Senior to join our growing team. This role is responsible for supporting key aspects of corporate tax compliance, reporting, and planning for the organization, ensuring compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local tax regulations. Specific focus will be on the provision for income taxes, federal and state income tax compliance, indirect tax compliance, and tax incentives and credits. The ideal candidate will have strong technical tax background, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across finance and business functions.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Assist with preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision under ASC 740, including disclosures and adherence to internal controls in compliance with SOX.
  • Assist with ongoing compliance requirements for various federal and state tax incentives.
  • Support planning initiatives, including modeling tax impacts of business decisions and transactions.
  • Interpret and research applicable implications of tax laws and the U.S. tax code.
  • Coordinate with external advisors and auditors during compliance and provision reviews.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect tax returns.
  • Analyze the taxability of transactions and ensure correct application of tax rates and tax exemptions for sales and use tax purposes.
  • Oversee sales and use tax exemption certificate collection and maintenance processes.
  • Assist in reconciling general ledger tax accounts to compliance filings, ensuring timely resolution of variances and collaboration with accounting team to maintain accurate and auditable tax records.


Other Functions:


  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operational teams to gather data for tax reporting and tax compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks.
  • Identify areas of improvement of internal processes.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by tax leadership.
  • Manage and respond to tax notices from federal and state tax authorities.
  • Support implementation of system or process changes affecting tax (e.g., ERP updates, automation tools).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor�s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax, preferably in a public company or Big 4 firm.


Desired Qualities:


  • Experience with income tax compliance and ASC 740 provision work.
  • Familiarity with indirect tax compliance (e.g., sales & use, property tax).
  • Proficiency in tax preparation and research software (e.g., OneSource, Bloomberg BNA)
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.
  • Detailed-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • An analytical thinker with the ability to interpret complex tax rules and apply them practically.
