POSITION DESCRIPTION
The School Nurse will be active in creating and building upon the school health program. Duties
include both delivery and coordination of health services, State reporting and compliance, and
utilizing the ANA Nursing Process to promote and improve student health. Duties are to be
performed in accordance with standards of professional nurse care and practice by Louisiana
board of education’s policies and procedures and Louisiana State Board of Nursing regarding
nursing with deference to the Nurse Practice Act. The School Nurse reports to the Director of
Operations and is part of the Operations Team.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
â— Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families
â— Utilize the nursing process for the assessment, treatment, identification of outcomes,
planning, implementation, and evaluation to care
â— Conduct Health, Vision, & Hearing screenings and referrals as mandated by the State of
Louisiana
â— Update roster and capture student immunization records in the LINKS database
â— Coordinate on campus Immunization and Dental Bus visits
â— Ensure proper intake, storage, administration, and documentation of medication.
â— Create and maintain Individual Healthcare Plans and Emergency Response Plans for
students with medical concerns
â— In partnership with the school leader, plan and lead the school’s response to public
health-related concerns that impact our community (such as COVID-19)
â— Participate in IAP and IEP planning for students, as needed.
â— Coordination and implementation of training for designated unlicensed staff in
Medication Administration, First Aid/CPR, & Diabetes Management
â— Maintain individual student health folders, separate from academic records
â— Effectively communicate with families, students, and staff to ensure continuity of care
and promote a healthy school environment
â— Partner with families as needed to problem solve and remove barriers related to student
health & wellbeing
â— Plan and execute whole group lessons educating students on health, hygiene, & related
topics throughout the school year, including sex education for middle school students
â— Seek out and cultivate health-related community partnerships to benefit the school
â— Other responsibilities as needed to support school operations
