Sales Manager - Paxton Gate Portland

We are looking for an experienced Sales Manager who demonstrates strong leadership, can inspire a high performing team, and has a passion for leading people. In this supportive role, the Sales Manager will contribute to a welcoming, imaginative, and engaging atmosphere here at Paxton Gate PDX.

Key Responsibilities


Multi-Location Experience Management


  • Oversee daily operations and sales performance for both Paxton Gate Portland locations.


  • Maintain a consistently high standard of �customer experience,†blending knowledge, hospitality, and fostering an environment that inspires curiosity.


Team Leadership & Development


  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and mentor a team that reflects the store�s love of natural science, carnivorous plants, art, and oddities.


  • Provide active, ongoing coaching and education in customer engagement, sales, and product knowledge.


  • Champion an inclusive, creative, collaborative team culture and celebrate wins.


Sales & Growth


  • Ability to set, monitor, and achieve revenue targets for both locations.


  • Analyze sales data to identify growth opportunities within departments. Develop and continually assess sale strategies.


  • Prepare for and ensure events are executed successfully from an experience & revenue perspective.


Knowledge of Retail Pro and Deputy is a plus


  • Encourage staff to share knowledge and help customers �discover the story†behind each item, turning shopping into an interactive experience.


Operational Excellence


  • Oversee visual merchandising and store presentation.


  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, local health and safety standards.


  • Implement efficient procedures for scheduling, payroll, reporting, and cost control.


What We’re Looking For


  • 2+ years of previous management experience (multi-location & retail operations a plus).


  • Demonstrates ability to lead, motivate, and educate teams in a creative, customer-facing setting.


  • Proven sales achievement and ability to drive revenue through team development and customer engagement.


  • Strong communication skills, ability to educate, fosters an inclusive environment.


  • Deep appreciation for natural science, art, plants, design or similar fields; curiosity and enthusiasm are a must.


  • Excellent organizational skills, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit that will excel in an ever-changing environment.


  • Ability to have a flexible schedule around store events and holidays to support the sales team along with sales goals.
