General Accountability and Summary


The Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting a proactive and high-performing safety culture. Embedded within the Owner’s Construction Management team, this role works closely with contractors, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.


As a trusted field presence, the Safety Advisor leads by example, reinforces safety expectations, and actively engages workers to identify and mitigate hazards before they lead to incidents.


Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct routine field inspections, audits, and observations to monitor compliance with the site-specific Health & Safety Management Plan
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and new worker orientations
  • Identify unsafe behaviors, conditions, and emerging trends, driving corrective action in real time
  • Coordinate with contractors to verify JSAs, permits, and hazard controls are in place for all workfronts
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
  • Liaise with the Owner, EPCM, and contractors to ensure alignment on safety systems and expectations
  • Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and readiness activities
  • Promote a culture of safety ownership at all levels of site operations


Skills & Competencies


Technical Skills:


  • Strong knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and heavy construction safety standards
  • Experienced in hazard identification, field auditing, and incident investigation protocols
  • Skilled in evaluating work permits, JSAs, confined space, fall protection, and hot work programs


Leadership Competencies:


  • Confident and credible field presence, with a coaching-oriented mindset
  • Effective communicator able to drive buy-in from both workers and supervisors
  • Committed to continuous improvement and risk prevention in dynamic work environments


Experience, Qualifications & Education


  • 8+ years of field safety experience on mining, industrial, or heavy civil projects
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent field-based training
  • Previous experience supporting Owner or EPCM teams preferred
  • MSHA and/or OSHA certification required
