1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
2. Current Michigan Board of Nursing license as a Registered Nurse with required renewals
3. Previous experience in nursing leadership/supervision preferred such as charge, head, or supervising nurse.
4. Knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing.
5. BLS Certification required within 3 months of hire and recertification as required.
6. ACLS, required within 1 year of hire and recertification as required.
7. Basic Arrhythmia Course required.
8. 1-2 years Surgical nursing experience (Pre-Op, Post-Op, Endoscopy, Operative and Ambulatory care), required.
9. OR Proper experience required.
10. Prior surgical tech or first assist experience preferred.
11. Knowledge of outpatient infusions/injections.
12. Knowledge of principles and practice of surgical asepsis as it applies to the surgical room as well as proper handling of tissue specimens, cultures, and smears.
13. Knowledge of various steps of different operations to be able to anticipate surgeons' needs.
14. Good understanding of various instruments used for each type of operation and proper setup of surgical room.
15. Thorough knowledge of post anesthesia recovery care and endoscopy procedures.
16. Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians, and all other support hospital & external personnel.
17. Ability to function in a leadership position by serving as a resource person and assuming leadership role in emergency/crisis situation, delegating specific tasks to appropriately trained personnel.
18. Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining a hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees.
19. Influence the direction of professional nursing practice by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude.
20. Demonstrates leadership and technical skills essential to job.
21. Demonstrates ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of nursing services.

Under the direction of Director of Nursing Services and Surgical Services Manager. The Surgical Services Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, performs all duties to meet patient care needs for all patient populations and oversees the care provided by other nursing staff. Performs all required nursing duties/roles/procedures for all patient populations to produce consistent high-quality services. Provides pertinent applicable documentation; provides patients with health promotion and disease prevention education. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or providers regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. Frequent, daily contacts with patients and their families. Frequent contact with other hospital employees, and physicians/providers. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills.
