Role


The

Risk Programs Specialist is responsible for providing risk management consultation and advisory services to leaders throughout the credit union. They will be the key point of contract in developing and maintaining the credit union’s business continuity and vendor management programs. They will serve as a back-up for the Director of Compliance & Risk Management in the review of marketing materials for compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. They will also ensure that risk issues identified as the result of the credit union’s risk assessment processes are tracked and reported. The position reports to the Chief Risk Officer.


Please note this role is hybrid. Applicants must be able to commute to Overland Park, KS weekly


To be successful as the Risk Programs Specialist we are looking for someone with


Required Experience:


  • 1-3 years of experience in business continuity management, vendor management, risk management, and/or a related compliance/risk areas, preferably in the credit union or banking industry.
  • Solid understanding of credit union operations and regulatory requirements (NCUA, FFIEC, etc.)
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations for credit unions, especially related to third-party risk and operational resilience.


Preferred Experience:


  • Experience working with GRC platforms or vendor/BCM systems preferred.

  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving:


They need to interpret complex data and connect dots across systems, often identifying hidden risks others might overlook.

  • Communication Skills:


Translating technical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical teams or leadership is essential.

Small errors can have major impacts in risk analysis, so a sharp eye for inconsistencies and patterns is vital.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork:


Risk often touches many departments-from IT to compliance to operations-so working well across functions is key.

  • Adaptability & Flexibility:


New risks emerge constantly. A great analyst rolls with change and thinks proactively about mitigation strategies.

  • Integrity & Professional Judgment:


Handling sensitive data and making calls on potentially high-impact issues requires ethical decision-making and trustworthiness.

  • Time Management & Prioritization:


They need to be able to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, set goals, and create systems or processes for achieving those goals. Juggling reporting deadlines, and last-minute requests takes serious organizational finesse.


Education


Required Education:


  • Associate�s degree in business, risk management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).


Preferred Education:


  • Bachelor�s degree in business, risk management, or a related field.
