Position Overview


The Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) operates retail locations at all of its venues. Retail stores may sell Olympic Authority merchandise, non-Olympic Authority merchandise, tickets, refreshments, on-line sales, and other products deemed appropriate for each venue’s respective clientele. The Retail Store Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operations and overall management of the store(s), which includes providing outstanding guest service and meeting and/or exceeding sales goals and objectives. The Retail Store Supervisor manages 1-2 employees and reports directly to the OSC/OJC General Manager and is administratively accountable to the Olympic Authority’s Retail Manager.


The Retail Store Supervisor works on site at Mt Van Hoevenberg. Daily activities required to complete job assignments may include climbing ladders, standing or being seated for extended periods, and lifting up to 50lbs. Limited travel, holiday and weekend work, as well as hours outside of the typical workday are required.


Duties and Responsibilities


Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Implementation and oversight of the ORDA/MVH retail business plan
  • Input and oversight of the MVH retail business plan.
  • Managing both the Swix Concept Store and the Mountain Pass Mercantile stores.
  • Running registers and assisting guests, when needed.
  • Completing daily sales tax report for the Olympic Authority�s finance department
  • Tracking sales/revenue generation and making recommendations regarding retail sales
  • Interviewing, hiring, training, supervising a retail staff; counseling employees.
  • Providing excellent guest service
  • Implementing a merchandising plan consistent with the Olympic Authority and venues defined retail objectives.
  • Managing an online sales program for the store location.
  • Achieving financial objectives and goals as established by the Olympic Authority�s Retail Manager
  • Recommending an overall sales strategy that is revenue producing and encompasses overall company objectives.
  • Maintaining store inventory levels and accuracy through monthly spot checks and biannual full store inventories.
  • Managing daily store operations including opening/closing store procedures which includes daily store cleaning.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment for both staff and guests.
  • Creating products, purchase orders and receiving merchandise in Sirusware.
  • Making sure that all merchandise is labeled correctly.
  • Answering guest and staff inquires through email, phone or in person.
  • Following the proper procedures for receiving merchandise.
  • Attending daily and or weekly retail and/or venue meetings.
  • Following the Olympic Authority�s procurement procedures and processes for retail purchases.
  • Keeping the store and back stock room organized.
  • Managing the retail staff schedule.
  • Attending retail trade shows and meet with vendors to see the latest merchandise.
  • Training and coaching employees on best practices for customer engagement, including product knowledge and upholding brand standards.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with customers, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Collaborating with the ORDA Buyer to curate a diverse and appealing product assortment that aligns with current market trends and customer preferences.
  • Developing and implementing effective merchandising strategies to optimize product displays, promote sales and enhance the overall visual appeal of the stores, including decorating for the current season.
  • Collaborating with the ORDA Retail Manager and Retail Buyer in Event Merchandise programs.
  • Working on retail budgets for the operation of the retail department, including payroll expenses, cost of goods, travel, supplies and whatever else is required to operate the retail store.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications


  • Be responsible for gross annual sales of $375,000 plus.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record, either inside or outside of the Olympic Authority, of effectively managing and motivating a team.
  • Be able to train new store supervisors in the organization, if necessary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, Outlook, Adobe, Sirusware a plus.
  • Proven experience in merchandising, ideally within the gift shop and ski industry.
  • Creative flair for visual merchandising and store layout design.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to change and challenging circumstances.
  • Capable of multi-tasking.
  • Able to effectively coach, delegate, and follow-up on multiple people/tasks.
  • Team player, working effectively with other departments and management.


Wage/Salary


This position is identified as a Grade 17 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $26.86 per hour. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), paid holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems, and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation, as defined under the CSEA contract.
