We are seeking an experienced
Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Charge - Night Shift) for a 13-week contract at a critical access hospital in North Elgin, ND. This position offers a unique opportunity to step into a dual role-providing direct ER patient care while also acting as the charge nurse for the entire hospital during overnight shifts.This is a great position for an RN who thrives in a rural setting and enjoys autonomy and leadership. The schedule typically runs in
block style, with 4-6 shifts in a row, allowing for extended time off between rotations.- Serve as the charge nurse overseeing hospital operations during the night shift
- Provide direct nursing care for 2-bed ER with low patient volume (average 1-5 ER patients per 24 hours)
- Oversee care for 1-3 inpatients (commonly skilled nursing needs such as IV antibiotics and PT/OT coordination)
- Respond to emergent cases and support patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Ensure clear communication with providers, support staff, and day shift leadership
- Shift: 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM, block-style schedule (4-6 consecutive shifts)

- ER Volume: Low census (1-5 visits/day)
- Start Date: September 2, 2025
- Housing: Provided or arranged within 5 minutes of the hospital
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Active RN license (ND or compact)
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience
- Prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS (preferred or must obtain prior to start)
