Piedmont HealthCare, one of the largest physician-owned multi-specialty groups in North Carolina and the Southeast, is looking to hire a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to serve its patient populations and the community at large.

Overview:

Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to build a practice within the vibrant multi-specialty physician’s group with in-house and outside referrals over an on-going basis. This Dietitian/Nutritionist will conduct nutrition assessments of patients and provide personalized nutritional plans to treat medical conditions and enhance lifestyle practices. The RD/Nutritionist will provide the critical nutritional knowledge and input into the medical care of patients. This dietitian can keep providers aware of the nutritional advances that can benefit their patients.

With the current environment of the internet and social media, the RD/Nutritionist can sort out information that lacks credibility and promote evidenced-based nutrition knowledge that is credible.

Qualifications* Currently a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration / Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with a Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a major in Foods and Nutrition.
  • Completed a Bachelor�s Degree or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a major in Foods and Nutrition or related field including completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship with eligibility to take the Registered Dietitian examination with the Commission on Dietetics Registration / Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Three years minimum experience as a clinical dietitian in an acute care or long term care or eating disorder residential care facility, or as an outpatient or private practice nutritionist/dietitian.

Certification and maintenance as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) as issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)


Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist as issued by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN), or in the process of applying.

Job Summary

The Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist performs a variety of specialized duties related to the nutrition counseling of patients / families for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) diet education. This may include but are not limited to diabetes education, health management, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, malnutrition / weight gain, infants with failure to thrive, renal medical nutrition therapy, gastrointestinal disorders/allergy nutrition therapy, sports nutrition, healthy diet on a budget.

Duties* Interviews patients / families which may include obtaining a diet history, exercise habits, reviewing emotional/social issues as part of the diet counseling process and documents any pertinent information obtained in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and documents nutrition notes in the confidential EHR on the Nutrition Services templates.
  • Provides personalized nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy to patients with various health concerns, conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments, developing tailored meal plans, educating individuals on dietary modifications, and monitoring progress to promote optimal health and lifestyle changes and prevention of disease.
  • Utilizes the principles of the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam to identify malnutrition and/or micro-nutrient deficiencies.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other services, such as the Endocrinology, Allergy, Social Services or various Food Assistance Programs as indicated.
  • Assesses for Eating Disorders or disordered eating and treats or refers as appropriate.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients before starting the new GLP-1 medications as well as while patients are experiencing the impact of these new medications on their bodies and systems.
  • Counsels patients / families on medical nutrition / diet therapy principles and restrictions, body image and healthy medical indicators at every size.
  • Utilizes available medical nutrition therapy education materials or creates them from reputable sources. Uses evidenced-based knowledge to substantiate educational resources.
  • Creates needed follow-up plan and has staff schedule or reschedule nutrition counseling appointments as needed and time permits.
  • Collaborates with referred providers to help achieve optimal health goals for patients. Communicates with the needed health professionals and staff to thoroughly assure the best health care for patients of PHC.
  • Seeks continuing education to keep up to date with scientific nutritional studies pertinent to the types of patients in practice.
  • Participates in and may conduct Piedmont HealthCare in-services and meets the mandatory annual in-service requirements in utilities management, infection control, safety and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Conducts or participates in nutrition-related research to advance the knowledge of nutrition in medical care and for the health of patients.
