Prevention Specialist
Community-based with local travel
Position Summary:
The Prevention Specialist plays a vital role in delivering community-based education and outreach focused on substance use disorder (SUD) and sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention. This position is responsible for facilitating workshops, organizing community events, distributing prevention materials, and building relationships with community partners. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public health, skilled in community engagement, and comfortable with frequent travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver educational sessions and workshops on SUD and STD prevention to diverse populations.
Coordinate and support public health events, outreach campaigns, and harm reduction initiatives.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with schools, service providers, and community organizations.
Conduct outreach to at-risk populations in rural, tribal, and urban settings.
Distribute prevention materials and resources in the community.
Collect and report data related to outreach, attendance, and outcomes.
Assist in the development of educational content, presentations, and printed materials.
Represent the organization at local events, coalitions, and meetings.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in public health, human services, or related field preferred.
Minimum of one year of experience in community outreach, public health, education, or related field.
Knowledge of harm reduction, substance use, and sexual health topics preferred.
Strong public speaking, facilitation, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Must be flexible and organized, with strong time management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry platforms.
Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance.
Ability to travel frequently
Occasional evening and weekend work required for community events and outreach.
Must be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those who are actively using substances or involved in the justice system.
Preferred but Not Required:
CPR/First Aid and/or Naloxone training
Peer Support or community health worker experience
Familiarity with local public health systems and recovery communities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
