Job Summary:


The Quality Assurance Concrete Specialist is responsible for overseeing the testing, evaluation, and documentation of concrete materials to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining quality control during batching, delivery, and placement of concrete on construction projects. The QA Concrete Specialist will conduct field and laboratory tests, analyze data, and work closely with production and project teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions when needed. Attention to detail, technical knowledge of concrete properties, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for success in this role.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Conduct field and laboratory testing of concrete, including slump, temperature, air content, and unit weight in accordance with ASTM standards.
  • Collect, prepare, and document concrete cylinder samples for compressive strength testing.
  • Monitor batching operations to ensure mix design compliance and proper handling of materials.
  • Observe concrete placement and finishing practices on job sites and identify any deviations from project specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with approved mix designs, project specifications, and ACI/ASTM/OSHA standards.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test results, batch tickets, sampling logs, and inspection reports.
  • Investigate material or workmanship defects and recommend corrective actions.
  • Communicate non-conformities and quality concerns to the project team in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with third-party testing agencies and ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Assist in review and approval of concrete mix designs and material submittals.
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Provide quality-related training to field crews and plant staff as needed.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed during all sampling and testing operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in concrete quality and durability.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education/Certifications/Licenses:


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I (required)
  • OSHA 10 (required) / OSHA 30 (preferred)
  • Additional certifications such as ACI Strength Testing Technician or Aggregate Testing Technician are a plus
  • Valid Driver�s License


Experience:


  • 2-5 years of experience in concrete quality control or materials testing
  • Experience with ASTM, ACI, and DOT concrete specifications and testing methods
  • Familiarity with concrete batch plants and field placement procedures
  • Hands-on experience with quality management systems and inspection protocols
  • Previous work in construction site environments preferred


Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Knowledge of concrete mix designs, materials, and behavior under various conditions
  • Proficiency in performing field and laboratory tests and interpreting results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and coordination
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Skilled in data collection, documentation, and report preparation
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working in both plant and job site environments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and testing/reporting software
  • Ability to train others on best practices for concrete quality and compliance
