We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized

Purchasing & Inventory Manager to lead our buying operations and inventory control across multiple departments. This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring the right products are purchased, priced, received, stocked, and sold efficiently across the store and nursery.


Position Overview


The

Purchasing & Inventory Manager is responsible for sourcing and procuring nursery stock, hard goods, seasonal merchandise, and garden center inventory in alignment with Toadflax Nursery’s standards and seasonal needs. This role oversees all inventory management processes, vendor relationships, and purchasing systems to ensure inventory is accurate, on-brand, and profitable.


Key Responsibilities Purchasing


  • Develop and execute seasonal purchasing plans for nursery plants, garden products, and home décor
  • Identify and evaluate vendors for quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contracts
  • Track market and seasonal trends to forecast demand and select merchandise accordingly
  • Collaborate with department leads and buyers to curate product mix and plan inventory needs
  • Place purchase orders and ensure timely and accurate deliveries


Inventory Management


  • Oversee all incoming shipments and receiving procedures to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Implement and manage inventory control systems and stock rotation protocols
  • Monitor stock levels and conduct regular cycle counts and full physical inventories with nursery staff
  • Minimize overstock, shrinkage, and out-of-stock issues through proactive planning
  • Ensure accurate product tagging, labeling, and POS system integration
  • Analyze sales data and product performance to adjust purchasing decisions


Qualifications


  • 3-5 years of purchasing and inventory experience, preferably in a retail, garden center, or nursery environment
  • Strong knowledge of horticultural products, seasonal buying cycles, and plant materials is a major plus
  • Experience with inventory management software and POS systems, specifically CounterPoint
  • Excellent negotiation, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced, seasonal retail environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and time management abilities
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in indoor/outdoor conditions as needed


Working Conditions


  • Full-time, year-round position with variable hours during peak seasons (spring/fall)
  • Combination of office work and hands-on inventory supervision in greenhouse and retail areas


*Pay will be based on experience
