The Town of Cheshire is now accepting applications for the position of Police Emergency Dispatcher. This position works alongside the department’s Patrol Division in the furtherance of the mission to ensure and protect the safety and welfare of all Cheshire residents and visitors to maintain and enhance quality of life. Police Emergency Dispatchers provide Telecommunicator Services to the Town of Cheshire 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, so successful applicants should be prepared to work on nights, weekends, and holidays.
The Town of Cheshire offers a competitive salary and benefits package including: paid sick time, paid holidays, paid vacation, a 5/2-5/3 schedule, and enrollment into the Town’s 457 (b) Deferred Compensation Plan. Candidates must have earned a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain COLLECT certification and a State of Connecticut Telecommunicator Certification.

Following the application submission, a number of applicants will be asked to participate in an Oral Panel Examination. Furtherance in the process may require selected applicants to, upon request, take and pass a written examination and pass a rigorous background investigation including, but not limited to, criminal history check with fingerprint submission through FBI, a psychological examination, medical examination with drug screening, a financial review with credit check, and Chief’s interview.
Starting salary is $27.20/hour upon appointment with annual step increases on the anniversary date of employment through 8 years.
