First Wave Construction is a
design-build general contractor specializing in ground-up self-storage facilities across Southern California. We’re looking for a highly motivated Project Engineer with in commercial construction to help lead multiple active projects. First Wave primarily is an owner builder GC and you are provided the ability to see a project begin from design phase to construction.This role splits time between
job sites in San Diego & Murrieta and our San Diego office, providing hands-on exposure to all aspects of project management - from scheduling and budgeting to coordination and closeout.- Create and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project
- Coordinate daily tasks across trades, vendors, and superintendents
- Manage RFIs, submittals, deferred submittals, and change orders
- Assist with budget tracking, bidding, and value engineering
- Conduct regular site visits and support field operations
- Close out projects with as-builts, warranties, and documentation binders
- Navigate permitting (e.g., Accela submittals, traffic control permits)
- Maintain project sample approvals (e.g., stucco, metal panels, MBCI, Janus/RDI)
- Degree in Construction Management, or similar this could be a good entry-level role, or for an individual with some early experience in the trades.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and PlanGrid
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
- Willingness to work in-office and visit project sites across Southern California
